Discovery International Music Festival was founded in 1991 on the initiative of Dono Tsvetkov and the production studio "Yes" run by him. Its first edition was in the beginning of 1992. It was held every year in the period January - March for three days, and since 2003 - in May.
Until 1997, the festival included promotions of music projects, theater performances, books and a national competition for pop artists. An international competition for pop singers has been held since 1998, and since 1999 it has included an international competition for a popular song. Initially held at the Festival and Congress Center, and since 1998 - at the Drama Theater "St. Bachvarov".
